English Language Acquisition

We believe that ALL students should receive equitable and appropriate instructional support since these students reflect our community. Therefore, it is our responsibility to educate all students and respect their cultural legacies and linguistic skills.

We are committed to promoting English language acquisition and ensuring academic achievement in inclusive schools that are culturally and linguistically diverse. This is accomplished through a strong collaborative process based on solid and current research, sustained through evaluation, reflection, and revision , to ensure growth for all students.

APS will sponsor eight LDE Certificate cohorts of teachers who currently teach in APS. Regis University will sponsor four cohorts; four cohorts will be sponsored by the University of Colorado at Denver.

Please use the application link below to register for the cohort. You will indicate your first, second and third choice of cohort schedules. Selection of teachers for each cohort is by lottery. Representatives of the Aurora Teacher Association, Division of Human Resources, and the Division of Instruction select candidates and assign them to the cohorts. The deadline for application will be in early August. The selection will be made by mid-August. Classes will begin sometime during the third or fourth week of August.

2. For your application to be considered, please complete the entire application.
3. In 2009-2010, eight cohorts are available to current employees and new teachers (hired for the 2009-2010 school year) who have a professional license.
4. The application deadline is August 8 at 5:00 PM.
5. The application will also be available on the the Professional Learning website, http://www.aps.k12.co.us/instruct/pl/lde.html.

7. In 2010-2011, ten cohorts will be available to second year teachers (hired in 2009-2010) and current employees.
